• Tarik O'Regan's setting of Swing low, sweet chariot, will prove a most rewarding challenge for most choirs, requiring control of pianissimi and of ensemble as shifting textures come and go. Words in some parts are distributed amongst wordless sounds, and are to "blend into the accompanying choral texture and not stand out too much". However, the result is worth the effort in rehearsal.

• Tarik O’Regan is shown as composer rather than arranger of Swing low, sweet chariot, and quite rightly, for although the tune is as expected, if very slow, the surrounding choral texture is a wonderfully atmospheric composition with harmonic clusters within which the melody is just apparent – the sound of heaven perhaps, and the ‘home’ to which the singer asks to be carried.
