Hugh Wood is usually thought of as Schoenbergian, but his Poem, Op 35, is unabashed Stravinsky, particularly the white-note, declamatory opening flourish, twice recalled. Less than eight minutes long, the work is a marvel of concision, and every bit as good as Stravinsky.
